Flossing is one of the most important parts of your oral health routine, yet it’s routinely overlooked by the vast majority of adults in America. Only four in ten adults floss on a regular basis – an alarmingly small number. A lot of people say they don’t enjoy flossing, but that’s hardly a good enough excuse to not do it. And if they knew how valuable it was, many people would likely floss much more.
Why is it important?
While brushing your teeth is obviously the biggest factor in cleaning your teeth, that only cleans about two-thirds of the surface of any given tooth. Brushes just can’t reach the nooks and crannies between teeth.
That’s where floss is important. It’s made to clean the areas your brush can’t, meaning it’s more effective at dissipating plaque, food, and other debris that builds up between your teeth and along your gum line.
You can be a better flosser by reminding yourself to do it once a day, using the flosser tools, or even a water flosser if you don’t like regular dental floss. Regardless of which method you choose in order to floss, it’s important to be consistent. That’s the real key to great oral health, and success with flossing.
