At Madden Dental, we know that there are times when a damaged, or crowding tooth may need to be removed. Having a dental extraction is typically done as a last resort or to make room for your teeth to have a healthy bite alignment. As such, our practice is pleased to give you a brief overview of some preparation and aftercare tips to help you have a speedy recovery after your dental extraction in Bellaire, Texas.

You will need to stick to a soft-foods diet while the tissues in your mouth heal. This includes eating foods like applesauce, mashed potatoes and yogurt. Proper hydration is also important. Drink plenty of lukewarm liquids without using a straw. The suction from the straw can harm the incisions or pull blood clots loose.

You shouldn’t be alarmed if the incisions weep a little blood for a few days after the extraction. When this happens, you can lightly pack the area with sterile gauze. Once the bleeding stops, you can rinse your mouth gently with lukewarm saltwater to clean the area and soothe your gums.

If you have additional questions about recovering from your tooth extraction, you can call Madden Dental at (713) 667-8080. Our dentist, Dr. Karisha Madden, and our experienced team is happy to help you with all of your oral care needs!
